So kickoff for the new ultra team and overall TNT season was this past weekend. We have a really fun small group and I am very excited about the upcoming season. With mentors, captains and participants we will have a group of about 25 which is a nice size. It will be great to get to know everyone and run on the trails.
Given that I am about to embark on this training plan, I decided to get my butt in gear and start my training in earnest. On Sunday, I ran a ten miler and felt really great. After a day of rest on Monday, I actually ended up going to the gym everyday Tuesday through Thursday. I really need to incorporate cross training and strength training into my workout schedule. I ended up taking a "Pure Strength" class on Tuesday which included lots of resistance band work, free weights and core strengthening exercises. On Wednesday I took a spin class which was okay but just a bit boring. I know most people say that running is boring, but sitting on a bike that goes no where while staring at a person in front of you who is sweating profusely just isn't thrilling for me. I guess I will get more used to it and maybe I just need to sit in the front of the class next time. Each day I also ran about 3 miles on the treadmill.
I also signed up today for 5 personal fitness sessions to have a strength training program set up for me. I have never really gotten into weight lifting, but it is really something I need to do.
Our first coached training is this weekend at Lake Chabot and then on Sunday I am running the Kaiser 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles) in San Francisco. I guess after running 6+ miles on Saturday, I should not expect to have a PR for that race, but I might give it a try.
