A new PR for myself

So I am definitely seeing a payoff to all of my hill training and taking on more miles per week on long trail runs. For a while now, I have wanted to run 6 miles in less than an hour. It seems I always come in at 1:01 or right around there. On Wednesday, I decided to get in a run during the break in all of this rain. The first three miles, I purposely did not look at my watch - I just ran at a pace that felt comfortable to me. At the three mile turnaround, I walked a bit to take in a GU and then when I decided to get back to running I glanced at my Garmin just out of curiosity. I had a chance to break an hour. Without realizing it, I had run an average 9:30 or less pace per mile on the way out and didn't even realize it. Therefore, I started running again booking the last mile at my fastest ever (at least that I know of or have recorded at 8:53). All this in a complete downpour from the sky. Now I am just irritated that I messed around after taking in that GU at mile 3. I could have actually set about a 58:00 PR for myself for 6 miles.

Lesson learned - maybe I should stop looking at my watch and my pace so much and just RUN! This confirms that my running ability is affected by the way I think as well. I think to myself - uh oh maybe I am running too fast to maintain for 6 miles and then I psych myself out!
