Mission Peak - On Saturday, I was tasked to provide support to the team via a water stop. Since I didn't want to ask anyone who loves me to stand outside in the heat for 5+ hours I decided to just do the support myself. Kim, being the wonderful friend that she is, offered to work with me and we would find a run to do together on Sunday. It turned out to be a very good thing as it was extremely hot, the water stop location was confusing and a couple of team members had to be transported back due to illness. It was a long and hot day and we arrived at 7:15am and didn't leave to go home until after 1:30pm. And I didn't even run!
San Lorenzo River Trail Run 30K-
Since we didn't run on Saturday, we signed up for a run in Santa Cruz. We were just going to do a half marathon (13.1 miles) but the race director offered us an 18 mile option. Kim and I ran easy and it was a nice, cool run shaded by lots of trees. The most fun part of the run was that we had to cross a river, not a creek, mind you, but a real river twice!!! I was slightly concerned (more worried about getting my feet wet) but it worked out fine and the icy cold water really felt great. The event people had also strung a rope across to hold on to which was really helpful. Otherwise, I think it would have been difficult to balance on the rocky river bed. The water was waist deep!
We had another great run and felt good afterwards, although a tendon in the back of my foot is a little tender from running on a sandy trail for about 4 miles. The sand was a real shocker and I still can't figure if it was brought in or supposed to be there. We were no where near the river on the sandy route - it fact it was located at the top of the mountain!! I adapted!!
Overall another great weekend of running!
